Protagonist energy through and through, this manifestly bold solitaire ring is informed by the abstract art of Kazimir Malevich.
Developing the direction of the design and refining the brief with the client is one of the early collaborative processes we enjoy the most at the studio. This client has been obsessing over the work of Malevich, and commissioned a ring based around a stunning 1 carat cushion diamond.
With this brief in hand, we delved into the aesthetic direction and the narrative of it.
Kazimir Malevich's art evolved through various phases, but he gained significant recognition for his ground breaking work in Suprematism, which is characterized by the use of geometric shapes, particularly squares and rectangles. Malevich's compositions often featured basic geometric forms arranged in a non-representational manner.
We wanted the piece to channel the essence of Suprematist compositions conveying a sense of movement and energy. A thousand abstract sketches and a bunch of 3D prototypes later we have arrived to a shape and form that defined the final outcome of the piece.
